Today is Sheikh Hasina 75th birthday

 

Dhaka: Awami League President Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina 75th birthday today (Tuesday, September 26).

 Sheikh Hasina is going through a long political life starting from her student life.


Under his visionary and prudent leadership, Bangladesh is moving forward on the path of developed and prosperous country.

Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was born on this day in 1947 in Tungipara, Gopalganj.


Born into a political family, Sheikh Hasina became directly involved in politics from her student days.

 He was active in the politics of Chhatra League. He was the elected Vice-President (VP) of Eden College. In his political career, he has been the Prime Minister four times and the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly three times. He has also been the president of the country's oldest political party, the Awami League, for 41 years. Under his leadership, today Bangladesh has become a digitalized and developing and low middle income country, moving forward on the path of developed and prosperous country.

In the long course of politics, Sheikh Hasina has had to face death again and again. Bombs, bullets, grenades hit him again and again. He also had to be imprisoned. In the struggle to establish democracy, Sheikh Hasina has had to fight against military dictatorship, communalism, terrorism and militancy, which is still going on. Besides, he has been awarded in the United Nations as an international recognition for taking the country forward on the path of prosperity.


Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had to spend a long time in jail. Since her childhood, Sheikh Hasina has fulfilled many political responsibilities while meeting and communicating with her father in jail. He conveyed the overall information of Awami League to Bangabandhu and conveyed Bangabandhu's instructions to the leaders of the party. Thus began his involvement with politics.


As the leader of Chhatra League, Sheikh Hasina took active part in the 6-point and later 11-point movement and the mass uprising of '69.


On 15 August 1975, the anti-independence local and foreign clique assassinated Bangabandhu and his family. Then Sheikh Hasina and younger sister Sheikh Rehana survived as they stayed abroad. After the assassination of Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina became the leader of the Awami League.


 As a result of his successful visionary leadership, the Awami League has been in power four times. At present, the Awami League is in power three times in a row and he is also leading the country in the trend of development as the Prime Minister for a total of four times including three times in a row.


Sheikh Hasina education began in a school in Tungipara. After Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was elected a member of the provincial council from the United Front in the 1954 elections, his family members started living in Dhaka. In 1956, Sheikh Hasina was admitted to the Narishiksha Mandir Girls' School in Tikatuli. In 1975, Sheikh Hasina passed the secondary examination from Azimpur Girls School. She graduated from the Intermediate Government Girls' College (now Badrunnesa Government Women's College) in Bakshi Bazar, Dhaka in 1986. He graduated from Dhaka University in 1973 with a degree in Bengali literature. Imprisoned father Bangabandhu in the interest of the prominent nuclear scientist in 1966. M. Sheikh Hasina got married to Wazed Miah.

Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana were in Belgium when Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family were assassinated on 15 August 1975 at the hands of the murderous clique. From there he came to Germany. Later he came to India from Germany and lived in exile. He returned to the country from India on 16 May 1971. Before returning to the country, he was elected party president in 1981 in the absence of Sheikh Hasina in the Awami League council. Another challenging life of Sheikh Hasina started with the responsibility of Awami League. He had to go through many ups and downs to get to where he is today.


While leading the movement for the establishment of democracy in this country, he was repeatedly attacked by the enemy. He was attacked with bullets, bombs and grenades at different times. On August 21, 2004, a grenade attack was carried out on Bangabandhu Avenue to assassinate him. He was jailed in 2007 on false charges during the caretaker government.


Sheikh Hasina became the daughter of Bangabandhu through the struggle against the military dictatorship to establish democracy in the country with the responsibility of the president of Awami League. Sheikh Hasina was awarded various awards and honorary degrees internationally for her success in running the state.


 He has been awarded honorary D-lit degrees from 13 universities in different countries. This year he received the SDG Progress Award. The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) presented the award to Sheikh Hasina. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received the award for her efforts to eradicate poverty, protect the world and ensure peace and prosperity for all.


She received the prestigious 'Vaccine Hero' award at the UN in 2019 for her significant contribution to the national and international immunization program, and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) awarded Sheikh Hasina the 'Champion of Skill Development for Youth' for her outstanding contribution to youth skills development. In 2015, he was awarded the highest environmental award, the Champion of the Year.


He has written several books even in his busy political life. Notable among these are- Militarism vs. Democracy, why they talk, the birth of dictatorship in Bangladesh, etc.


Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is staying in the United States on her birthday this year.


He traveled to the United States to attend the UN General Assembly. The Awami League and its affiliated organizations are celebrating Sheikh Hasina's 75th birthday through various events.
